Department of Quality of Life Receives KLB Healthy Communities Grant

Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government Department of Quality of Life/Cultural Enrichment Division Receives Keep Louisiana Beautiful Healthy Communities Grant

HOUMA, LA—Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB), the state’s premier anti-litter and community improvement organization, has chosen Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government’s Department of Quality of Life/Cultural Enrichment Division (grantee) to receive a Healthy Communities Grant to support their litter prevention and waste management practices. The KLB (grantor) authorizing official announced today that the $9,993 grant was awarded to this grantee to help create and execute the goal of keeping Terrebonne appealing, with focus on addressing litter and recycling challenges after community events. "This grant award represents an active partnership with KLB that will help us uphold our responsibility to do the right thing for the environment and community regarding preserving the environment for residents and visitors alike,” stated Jim Wendell, Director of the Department of Quality of Life.

KLB Executive Director Susan Russell explains that the Healthy Communities Grant is designed to provide funding for local projects and programs bringing about behavioral changes needed to improve the appearance of communities in Louisiana. “Projects focus on litter removal, litter prevention education and practices, waste management and reduction, recycling, reusing, refusing, litter enforcement, and other related efforts. KLB seeks projects that have diverse community support, volunteer involvement, collaboration with stakeholders, and benefit the community at large,” Russell stated. Made possible with funding from the State of Louisiana and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, 12 Healthy Community Grants totaling over $98,000 were awarded to eligible organizations including Louisiana parishes, municipalities, state agencies, governmental entities, political subdivisions, schools, colleges, universities, non-profit organizations, and KLB affiliates. Wendell added, “The Department of Quality of Life will use our grant to not only clean up after community events, but with the help of volunteers, also clean up other areas of concern.”
